HALO: Helping Art Liberate Orphans
HALO is a charity founded by Rebecca Nuenshwander Welsh of Jefferson City in 2005 after returning from a mission trip abroad. She wanted to reach out and make a difference in the world and help build a strong life for youth in the greatest need. HALO provides food, water, shelter, clothing, education, art therapy, and caregivers to abandoned or orphaned youth internationally and in these cities in the United States – Kansas City, Los Angeles, Portland, and Jefferson City. In 2013-2014 HALO identified 135 homeless teenagers in our city. As a result, HALO has begun the HALO Transitional Living Program in Jefferson City – a 24 month-long program that provides free housing for pregnant, parenting, and non-parenting youth ages 16-21 who are homeless or in high-risk situations.
Come and learn more about HALO and its mission in our own community at both of our May 21st worship services.
