The first followers of Jesus weren’t called Christians. The were called members of The Way. I like that in the sense of following the One who is The Way, Truth, and Life. It’s more of a movement and lifestyle than an organization/institution. It serves as the foundation for this new alternative to Sunday morning worship.
This experience is designed for those who are looking for something different than the “normal” Sunday morning experience. It also serves as an option for those who aren’t available on a Sunday morning.
The vision is set within the worship practice of the earliest Christians. They met together in small house settings for a broad worship which included songs, Bible/conversation, and a Communion meal that actually was a meal. It follows the traditional model of worship which is: Gathering songs, Word, Meal, and Blessing/Sending. It is a multi-generational experience. All ages participate as able. It’s good for the young and old to learn and be inspired from one another.
We gather at 5 pm for 75 to 90 minutes. Done by 6:30. We meet in the Fellowship Hall. If it’s nice outside, we’ll sing at The Vine. We have about 15 minutes of music. (If you want to help lead, go for it. Bring your cowbell or whatever to make a joyful noise.) Then there’s conversation which explores the intersection of the Bible texts with the reality of our daily life. in the context of a communal meal. So bring some food item to share in a potluck fashion if you like. But know that there’s always enough. So just come with food or not. Then the evening closes with about a blessing of one another which sends us out prepared with all of God’s resources to traverse the next week of life.
So what do you say?
